Villa Ivy & Elisa
Bali
"Tropiacal rationalism"
Villa Ivy and Villa Elisa are situated in the village of Seseh, just 400 meters from the beautiful and tranquil beach.
The project comprises two villas with rooftop terraces offering views of the surrounding nature.
The design aims to blend modernism with the traditional wisdom of the island by focusing on proper orientation, efficient air circulation, and the selection of appropriate materials.
Volumetrically, the building consists of a wooden volume enclosed in a white masonry volume, supported by natural stone walls that define the plot, creating patios with gardens and pools. Greenery and plants integrate and decorate the pure volumes, helping to mitigate the heat of the tropical sun.
The teak wood volume features vertical slats in the solid parts, revealing service windows for bathrooms and accessory rooms. It opens up at the terraces of the bedrooms with full-height wooden windows.
Functionally, the villas consist of ground floors with living spaces and kitchens that open onto gardens with pools and sun decks, and first floors with bedrooms and bathrooms characterized by skylights and rooftop terraces with white metal pergolas and bamboo covers within a fully landscaped space.
The nearly fully retractable sliding windows connect the interior and exterior spaces, enhancing the perception of space and offering views of the surrounding nature.
The interiors maintain continuity with the external architecture. Pure volumes clad in terrazzo or polished concrete define stairs, sofas, kitchens, and wardrobes, creating a minimalist environment where quality prevails over quantity. The use of wood, rattan, and bamboo for windows, furniture, lamps, and decorations warms the space, creating a Balinese atmosphere and a local feeling.
